7B13.50 - UV fluorescence
- Description
This demonstration illustrates absorption and fluorescence of differently coloured materials using UV light. It is also suitable for demonstrating scintillate materials and their working principle.
- Equipment
- Bars and rod of fluorescent plastic, various colours
- UV light source, 395 - 400 nm
- Other light sources, e.g. green/red laser pointer, white light
- How to assemble and operate
- 1. Absorption of ultraviolet light produces various fluorescent colours. Note that absorption of UV light in the blue bar is stronger than in the red bar. Use a different light source and different light source positions to see its effect on fluorescence and absorption.
