This demonstration illustrates how a balance of forces can be achieved using a pulley system.
- Equipment
- Retort stands with pulleys
- Masses set with hangers
- String
- How to assemble and operate
- 1. Attach the pulleys to the top of the stands and position them as shown
- 2. Load the masses onto the hangers
- 3. Release the masses, for appropriate choices of masses they should balance
