This demonstration illustrates how the centre of mass of an irregular shape can be found.
- Equipment
- Irregular shaped piece of cardboard with holes near vertices
- Retort stand with rod
- String with mass
- Marker
- How to assemble and operate
- 1. Place cardboard on rod near a vertex and hang string and mass
- 2. Mark a few points on the line and remove the cardboard
- 3. Draw a line through the points with a ruler
- 4. Repeat for two more vertices, the intersection of the lines will be the centre of mass
